微软亚洲研究院是微软公司在美国本土之外最大的基础科研机构，被美国著名技术杂志MIT  《Technology Review》誉为“世界上最火的计算机实验室”。实习生进入微软亚洲研究院后深入到每个研究小组进行为期三个月或更长时间的实习。截止至2010年10月，已有4300名来自亚太区高校的学生到微软亚洲研究院实习，平均每年有400个实习机会开放给所有的学生。

多媒体计算组：
Position: Full-time Intern
Group:Media Computing
Quantity: 1
Work Location: Beijing

Group Overview
The Media Computing group focuses its research efforts on data-centric media computing platforms that collect, find, aggregate, and understand media and related data to provide a new user media experience.
Roles & Responsibilities
The intern will be working with Yan Lu, on applications of cloud-mobile computing by advancing multimedia and networking technologies. The intern will be required to work on both algorithms design and system implementation, and probably for various related research projects.

Required Qualifications:
–        MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or any related technical field
–        Requirements in the following research areas
a.        Strong in multimedia compression and networking
b.        Solid mathematics (linear algebra, optimization, statistics)
c.        Background in mobile computing and embedded system is a plus
–        Strong programming skills or have related project experience
–        Good reading, written, and oral English
–        Good communication skills and excellent teamwork
–        Can commit at least 6 months internship, can get your advisor’s approval.

无线传感组：
Position: Full-time Intern
Group:  Mobile and Sensing Systems (Feng’s group)

Roles and Responsibilities
Research and development in the areas of: wireless sensor networks, embedded systems, mobile services and applications, and systems support for mobility.

Required Qualification
–        Strong programming skills
–        Interested in the area of mobility, wireless networking, data processing, and systems research
–        Solid foundation in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field
–        Passionate about computing technology and tools
–        Good at English reading and writing

硬件计算组:
Position: Full-time Intern
Group:Hardware Computing
Quantity: 1

Group Overview
Push forward the state of the art in hardware computing to innovate in software services and to realize novel devices. Research fundamental computer architecture, identifies hardware opportunities in specific services, and builds integrated hardware/software solutions. Extrapolate hardware trends, study new interaction models, and construct working prototypes.

Roles & Responsibilities
The interns will work on exploring approaches/strategies for efficiently managing storage hierarchy with novel devices like Flash memory. The interns will be required to design and implement system level software/firmware on realistic hardware platforms, including application-level data structures, or file system/IO subsystem, or device drivers/on-board firmware. If qualified, the interns’ work will be both used in realistic systems, and used to conduct experiments for academic papers.

Required Qualifications:
–        Can commit at least 3 months full-time internship, with your advisor’s approval
–        Strong skills in C/C++
–        Solid knowledge and experiences in system level software development
–        Experiences in I/O management (file system, disk I/O optimization, SAN) is highly preferred
–        Experiences in Flash memory or SSD (solid state disk) is highly preferred
–        Experiences in search engine is a plus
–        Capability to quickly learn from English literature is a plus
–        Majoring in Computer Science or related technical background is a plus

语音组：

Group: Speech Group

Group Overview
Using our voices to communicate continues to be the most natural and the easiest way to exchange ideas and thoughts. At MSR Asia, the Speech Group is working hard to turn their ideas into reality and improve spoken-language technologies, enable human-computer voice interaction, and enrich human-to-human voice communications. The group’s current focus includes speech recognition to enable computers to facilitate access to data, help create content, and perform tasks; speech synthesis to enable computers to speak with a human-sounding voice, to respond and provide information, and to read; and spoken-document retrieval and processing to enrich communication

Roles & Responsibilities
We require two students to perform research into the exciting area of automatically trainable speech synthesis. This technology will be applied to various human-computer communication or telecommunication systems, e.g. information inquiry, reservation and ordering, and reading emails. The student will learn many skills in speech processing, audio processing, as well as some software development.

Required Qualifications:
–        good at C++ coding
–        good knowledge on machine learning and pattern recognition
–        good team-working and communication skill
–        good at learning
–        some experiences on text, speech and audio signal processing
–        6+ months full-time internship with supervisor’s permission

视觉计算组：
Position: Full-time Intern
Group:  Visual Computing
Quantity:  1
Work Location: Beijing

Group Overview
Researchers in the Visual Computing Group focus on research in computer vision and image/video based machine learning and pattern recognition. They are pushing state-of-the-art research and technologies in image/video analysis and understanding.

Roles & Responsibilities
The intern will be working with Dr. Zhouchen Lin to produce high quality codes, especially GPU codes, for algorithms that researchers have invented. The codes will be shipped to the third parties or Microsoft products.

Required Qualifications:
–        Good programming skills, having good project experience;
–        Good experience with GPGPU coding;
–        Good communication skills and excellent teamwork.
–        Can commit at least 4 months internship, can get your advisor’s approval.

搜索技术中心:
Position: User Experience Designer Intern
Group:Search Technology Center Asia       
Quantity: 1

As part of the Microsoft Bing team, the Search Technology Center Asia (STCA) in Beijing is working to deliver innovative Internet search products and services to the China, Japan, Korea and global Internet markets. Our combination of global scale, local focus, and an integrated partnership with the world-class Microsoft Research Asia gives us a unique capacity to deliver truly useful services for users in this exciting market and to bring the great ideas from China to the world.

Roles & Responsibilities
–        Own and deliver hi-fidelity UX design work for Bing features
–        Plan, scope and prioritize UX visual design work
–        Evangelize UX practice, vision, process and thinking in STCA
–        Work closely with the Bellevue UX design team on vision, process, design reviews and UX strategy
–        Work collaboratively and efficiently with other designers, and work on multiple interrelated projects to completion on schedule.
–        Collaborate effectively with other functional groups (program management, development, user assistance, localization, marketing, etc)
Required Qualifications:
–        Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent certificates in design related field including product/industrial design, fine arts, graphic design, or other related field.
–        Detail-oriented with a passion for visual perfection, quality, and strong knowledge of graphic design and styling, including color, layout, readability, typography, etc.
–        Strong working knowledge of industry software tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Illustrator/Flash)
–        Strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS
–        Experience designing for Internet services or mobile devices is a plus

Group: Innovation Engineering Group (IEG)

Group Overview
The Innovation Engineering Group is a new incubation group based in Microsoft Research Asia. Here teams are small, the environment is unstructured, and the work is fast-paced. One of our projects is an online marketplace that will be hosted in and targeted for the U.S. The project will be publicly available, and leverages technologies such as Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, ASP.NET, and C#.

Required Qualifications:
–        Major in Computer Science or related
–        Proficiency in C++ is required
–        Experience of windows application development will be preferred.
–        Full-time internship (with your supervisor's approval)
