Electronic Product Engineer
Job Description:
Cisco is currently seeking talented Product Engineers. Our Product Engineers provide new product and on-going engineering for a specific product or group of products from pre-concept commit through end of life.
Responsibilities:
• Reports to Product Engineering Manager and will interface with company wide Business Units, Manufacturing, Partners and CA personnel.
• Provides technical guidance to manufacturing value engineering team on hardware cost redesign and bug fixes.
• Participates on a project team of engineers involved in the specification, design, development and test of hardware.
• Debugs complex system level problems.
• Provide hardware debug mentorship to contract manufacturing test engineers and debug technicians. Ensures that Manufacturing receives the required level of product training.
• Supports the development of new products by leading the manufacturing effort to define and drive design for manufacturing and test (DFM and DFT) with the goal of reducing the assembly and test time, and increasing the overall product quality.
• Investigates and promotes cost avoidance efforts during the development process.
• Drives the evaluation and enhancement of the engineering design verification process with the goal of releasing zero design defects to production.
• Manages technical changes to existing products through the ECO process.
• Drives the reduction in product costs of goods through the ongoing investigation and qualification of lower cost parts and more effective processes.
• Actively work with the Defect Reduction Team by working to identify product issues and drive resolutions.
• Perceived as a technical leader both within and across the organization.
• Promotes team conformance to established processes and procedures through formal and informal training and mentoring.
• Works in conformance to established manufacturing processes and procedures.
• Takes an active role in the evaluation and enhancement of existing tools.
• Ability to establish technical direction through the investigation and evaluation of new manufacturing technologies.
Skills / experience required:
• Requires BS degree in Engineering or equivalent plus 7-10 years related experience.
• Understanding of system hardware architectures, design concepts and engineering development practices. Using various diagnostic tools, debug and trouble-shoot failing system down to board level and also boards down to component level. Characterize timing interface using scope, logic analyzers, TDR and various other equipments. Test, debug and bring-up proto boards.
• Ability to establish technical direction through the investigation and evaluation of new manufacturing technologies.
• Ability to work with good attention to details but also have a high-level view of product development.
• Handle large and complex projects and processes and flexible to work with others to implement technical strategy.
• Experiences with Allegro, Valor and other manufacturing tools used in the job.
• Good understanding of PCB fabrication process and technology.
• Good understanding of the end-to-end process for board assembly.
• Investigating and evaluating new tools and equipment that will improve the quality of the product and efficiency of the group.
• Ability to train and mentor others in debugging complex system.
• Understanding of the entire product development process.
• Promotes team conformance to established processes and procedures through formal and informal training and mentoring.
• Ability to work with little direction from Manager.
• Ability to work in a team and ability to multi-task.
• Good written and verbal communication. Good interpersonal skills.
