交大密西根学院Writing Consultant招聘(申请截止6月22日)

Writing Consultant Positions Available

The Writing Center at the University of Michigan - Shanghai Jiao Tong University Joint Institute seeks to recruit Student Writing Consultants for the academic year 2016-2017.

Brief Description:
The Writing Center supports students’ writing development through one-on-one and group consulting sessions as well as workshops.

Writing consultants are selectively recruited students interested in the craft of writing and in acting as engaged readers and facilitators for the students who seek their services.

Responsibilities:

Writing Consultants hold one-on-one or group appointments with JI students regarding any stage of the writing process from generating ideas to writing and revising class writing assignments or professional communications.

In addition, writing consultants participate in weekly training sessions; design materials and resources in response to student needs; participate in outreach; and plan, design, and run workshops.

Time Commitment:
Flexible. 5-10 hours a week including weekly training sessions.
Fall and Spring Semester preferred, with optional Summer Semester hours.

Qualifications:
1. ECNU undergraduate or graduate student
2. Advanced English proficiency and writing skills
3. Training in argumentative and evidence-based writing (Vy100 & Vy200, graduate training, or equivalent)
4. Interest in receiving training in collaborative peer tutoring techniques
5.  Interest in receiving training in addressing students’ writing concerns in a process oriented manner
6. Interest in receiving training in addressing students’ linguistic concerns.
7. Demonstrated interest in writing.
8. Demonstrated interest in working with others in a confidential, peer context.

Amalia.jiva@sjtu.edu.cn as explained below, no later than June 22, 2016.

1. Current Resume (see Note 1)
2. One-page Cover Letter (see Note 2)
3. Recent academic writing sample, 3-5 pages (see Note 3)
4. One paragraph explaining how you chose the selected writing sample and what writing skills it helps exemplify
5. Contact information for an academic references (see Note 4)
6. Transcript: The Writing Center will request the transcript of selected JI candidates directly from the Registrar’s Office.

Please combine documents 1 to 5 into one pdf document entitled
Last Name First Name Writing Consultant Application
Please place ‘Last Name First Name Writing Consultant Application’ in the subject line of your email when you send in the application.
Selected applicants will be contacted for an in-person interview by July 4.

Competitive, depending on qualifications and experience.

Note1: A resume does not require paid work experience. If you don't have any, simply list your education, volunteer work, and skills you believe are relevant to the position.

Note 2: Your cover letter should include an explanation of your interest in the position and should describe how you understand the role of the writing consultant, and therefore, how you believe your skills match the position.

Note 3: An academic writing sample means any non-creative class paper (no poems or short stories). It can be an excerpt from an undergraduate or graduate course essay or a senior project, for example.

Note 4: A reference means providing only the contact person for a faculty member who knows you and your work, and who is willing to speak on your behalf if contacted. No recommendation letter is needed.
